Varsity Game Schedule
The MLFA varsity league is for players in 5th and 6th grade. At the varsity level, coaches continue to reiterate safe tacling and sound fundamentals. Then coaches really hone in on technique and skill at each position. A more complex playbook is introduced on both sides of the ball. Passing becomes more prominent as do defensive schemes. it is an exciting game to watch. The level of commitment becomes more clear as players see results individually and with their team. A major goal of the varsity league is to prepare players for 7th grade football in middle school. This "pipeline" has been feeding great players into the Mt. Lebanon High School program, with success, for years.
Every player will start on either offense or defense and will see significant playing time.
Introduction camp shall begin approximately the last third week of August – location to be determined. Practice three (3) to four (4) times per week as a team from approximately the first week of September thru the last week of October (typically at the same field, although the varsity teams may practice at different locations from other varsity teams). Games on Saturday’s either at Mellon Middle School or at Mt. Lebanon High School Stadium. Times of the games vary. Games consist of four (4) 10 minute quarters with paid PIAA officials.
Coaches, players, and parents have a lot of fun as the skill and competition level rises.
